Arara Canindé

A arara-canindé é uma ave psittaciforme da família Psittacidae.Também é conhecida como ara-arauna.É uma ave de inteligência incrível.

Não é considerada uma ave ameaçada, embora seja apreciada como ave de gaiola. Suas populações estão diminuindo e algumas delas já estão extintas.

CARACTERÍSTICAS

Mede cerca de 80 centímetros de comprimento. Grande e de cauda longa. Inconfundível e vistosa coloração azul ultramarino no dorso, e amarelo-dourado na parte inferior desde a face, ventre até o rabo, garganta com linha negra e área nua na cabeça com linha depenas negras. Os jovens têm as asas e o rabo café-acinzentado e os olhos pardos.

ALIMENTAÇÃO

Migra em certas épocas do ano, em busca de alimento. Desloca-se a grandes distâncias durante o dia, entre os locais de repouso e de alimentação. Alimenta-se basicamente de sementes, frutas e nozes.

HÁBITOS

É localmente comum na copa de florestas de galeria, várzeas com palmeiras (buritizais, babaçuais, etc.), interior e bordas de florestas altas, a cerca de 500 m de altitude. Vive em pares ou em grupos de 3 indivíduos, combinação mantida também quando formam-se bandos maiores de até 30 indivíduos.
